Debacle in Afghanistan

By Staff | Aug 27, 2021

To the editor:

To better understand President Joe Biden being completely responsible for the present debacle in Afghanistan, we have to review his decisions.

There were classified assessments by American spy agencies over the summer painting a grim picture of the prospect of a Taliban takeover in Afghanistan with a warning of a rapid collapse of the Afghan military that was presented to President Biden. Yet, President Biden continued to say publicly that was unlikely to happen.

By July many intelligence reports grew more pessimistic. President Biden when asked if he was made aware of this, answered in his interview that he did not recall. Again, there were those who wish to remain anonymous that confirm the President was aware of these reports in early July and before. But, on July 8, 2021 President Biden, being well aware of these reports, said that the Afghan government was unlikely to fall, and that there would be no chaotic evacuations of Americans similar to the end of the Vietnam War.

President Biden, as he calls himself the Commander-In-Chief, ordered the withdrawal of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan over the advice of his senior-most advisers in the Pentagon and State Department. Forty-six years before then Sen. Joe Biden, in April of 1975 opposed “The Vietnam Contingency Act of 1975,” which would send emergency funds to South Vietnam for evacuation and relief efforts.

As now our Commander-In-Chief, who we know received five draft deferments during the Vietnam War in claiming asthma, which was the claim that deferred him from serving his country during that era. Yet, miraculously not restricting him from continuing to play football and perform duties as a lifeguard. He now makes the final decision in over ruling military and state department assessments as the Commander-In-Chief.

Now this once-upon-a-time draft dodger, newly claimed hero, who rejected the advice from his top advisors in the Pentagon, State Department and Intelligence Departments, does not recall being advised of the imminent dangers of a rapid takeover by the Taliban from those senior-most advisors. Coupled with the advisors’ grim outlook for ensuring a safe evacuation for all Americans and allies we worked with over the years, we are now seeing this President’s poor decision making, as the cause for the present debacle in Afghanistan.

Robert Gates in serving as the CIA director under George H.W. Bush and Defense Secretary under George H. Bush and Barrack Obama in his memoir stated, “Joe Biden was wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades.” Even former Sen. John McCain in 2012 stated, “Biden has been consistently wrong on every national security issue that I have been involved with over the past 20 years.”

So those of you looking to blame everyone else over the past 20 years for this debacle in Afghanistan need not to look any further back than the past seven months. History seems to repeat itself over the past 40 years for one then Senator and now Commander-In-Chief.

Wake up America!
