New Island Java Coffee House offers atmosphere with coffee
North Fort Myers now has a new, trendy yet down-home coffee shop that offers style, great coffee and teas and delectable desserts and treats.
New owner and Cape resident Stefanie Flaugher just opened the Island Java Coffee House.
“When I went to get coffee in this area I couldn’t get what I liked. So I decided to open up this shop,” she said.
Island Java Coffee House features coffees, espresso, tea (including chai tea) and more. There are homemade, mouth-watering desserts and pastries, and daily specials on soups, paninis and wraps and salads.
The store is located in Weavers Corners on the far southeast corner. (If you’re looking straight at Winn-Dixie, drive all the way to the right and around the corner.)
It has a tropical style motif, with a sharp new decor. She said she and her family gutted the old structure, and laid the tiles and redid the ceiling, along with picking all the design pieces that fit so well in the shop.
“All of my children help here in the shop, my sons Mitchell and Matthew and daughter Marissa,” she said.
Fourteen-year-old Marissa was the designer of a tropical logo that greets you at the door and logos she actually burned into the wood of the cafe tables.
The family connection to North Fort Myers is the North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, where all of the children have gone to school.
Stephanie herself has an interesting background.
“I was the director of IT for a homebuilder for many years, but when I was looking for something else, I didn’t want to work for another corporation,” she said.
About six months ago she began searching for a shop like where she could combine some of her other talents – including baking.
“In my spare time that’s what I like to do,” she said.
At the coffee house, they will offer fresh food including breads daily, which she cooks herself. She said she won’t settle for anything less than perfect, and her husband commented the other day when she threw out what he thought was a perfectly good set of brownies.
“Anything less than perfect I throw out,” she said.
Not only do the desserts taste great, they look fantastic. She was also a Wilton Cake Decorating instructor for almost 14 years. That well known business trains cake and dessert decorators, including those that do wedding cakes and more.
Concerning coffees, she has 33 syrups you can add to make an endless possibility of flavors.
“I can make any coffee combination anyone can think of,” she said. “I also have a new green tea frappachino which is interesting.”
She said she chose the tropical theme for a certain reason.
“I worked in the corporate world for many years but I enjoy the slow pace of Island life,” she said.
While she is a Cape resident, she said she thought out her plan on where to open a shop like this.
“Cape Coral has several places, but there was nothing fun like this in this area,” she said.
She also offers free Wi-Fi.
The shops hours are now Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seasonal hours may change.
