Caribbean-American fare comes to area at Sundown Tiki Bar and Grill
If you want that Caribbean or Key West feel, you can visit the new Sundown Tiki Bar and Grill restaurant in Marinatown in North Fort Myers.
The eatery has seats in and out, for guests to enjoy that special outdoor tiki atmosphere or a brightly decorated interior.
You can visit by car or boat – there are more than 100 slips at Marker 52 for Marinatown guests. The business has joined other waterfront area restaurants there including Harbourside Bar & Grill and Coconuts.
A huge thatched outdoor area has TVs for sporting items, with seats both on the inside and outside of their bar.
The restaurant features Caribbean-American cuisine.
Head chef Tyrone Smith, originally from Fort Myers, also studied culinary arts in Innsbruck, Austria. What makes food Caribbean American?
“It’s the spices and the preparation of the food. We take the Caribbean and we don’t put in quite so much of the spices.”
Other items include Bahamian red conch chowder, Caribbean Black Bean Soup, a Bahamian Conch and Shrimp Salad for starters.
His favorite main dish on the the menu is Paella.
“That’s for one or two. It has mussels, calamari, shrimp, chicken and andoiulle sausage, served over our Islands seasoned rice.” There’s also steaks and pastas.
Specials include dinner for two for $29.99 on Saturdays, and a Ladies Night on Wednesdays with free drinks for ladies from 6 to 10 p.m. and one-half price appetizers for them too at that time.
There is entertainment five days a week – Tuesdays through Saturdays.
“One featured entertainer is David Johnson, who played with the Neville Brothers,” Smith said. “It ranges from from Motown to Reggae, primarily Motown. And the location is beautiful.”
Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with later hours on weekend nights.
