New Publix Center may soon be under construction

2 min read

A new shopping center and Publix grocery store at the southwest corner of Bayshore and Slater Roads in North Fort Myers. The center will be anchored by a 46,500 square foot Publix store and will include 23,760 square feet of local shop space.

The center will occupy 20 acres recently purchased by a corporation formed by Publix developer Halvorsen Holdings of Boca Raton from a corporation arranged and managed by Jim Kinsey through Starboard Development Corp., the development arm of Fort Myers based Kinsey Associates Inc.

The Publix shopping center will be the first phase of a 70 acre mixed-use project which will ultimately include a 175-lot residential subdivision to be located just south of the shopping center. The subdivision development is slated for 2012-13. The shopping center could break ground in October of this year if sufficient local shop leases are procured.

The center will also include 4 out parcels suitable for banks, gas stations, fast food and sit down restaurants, and other businesses. As part of the entitlements, a joint development agreement between Lee County and Halvorsen will result in substantial improvements to the Bayshore Road / Coon Road intersection which will widen and add turn lanes to Coon Road.

For local shop leasing, prospective tenants should contact Tim Berg at Halvorsen Development at 561-367-9200. For out parcels, contact either Mr. Berg or Jim Kinsey at 239-939-1367.

Starboard Development has initiated numerous other projects at the intersection, notably the assemblage of 42 acres at the southwest corner which includes the KB Homes community “Bayshore Commons,” a Walgreens store, a site for a 19,000 sq. ft. retail center, and a 1.3 acre out parcel. Starboard also procured the northeast corner for Halvorsen where it coordinated the development of a CVS drugstore and has finalized a deal for a McDonalds restaurant.
