Estates to celebrate 50 years of the Mustang April 19

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates are celebrating the iconic Ford Mustang on Saturday, April 19, on the riverside estates’ grounds at 2350 McGregor Blvd.

Celebrating the legacy of 50 years of Mustang, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., is being supported by the Mustang club of Charlotte County, Gulfshore Mustang Club of Southwest Florida and Ponies in Paradise Mustang Club.

Dozens of Mustangs from across the five decades will be on display. Private collectors also are encouraged to show their cars.

“Anyone who brings a Mustang onto the property for display gets in free,” said estate spokesperson Janet Wilson. “We have Mustangs from the every decade but the ’80s so far, and only 50 registered, but we expect to have more than 100. There’s still plenty of time and car shows are known for late registration.”

Musical entertainment, a DJ, barbecue and beverages will be available for sale. Guests can take informal tours of the homes, gardens, lab and museum, and visit with living historical players Henry and Clara Ford. The cost of admission is free for Edison Ford members, or $20 for non-members.

“This is a great venue to have it on the riverfront and on the Henry Ford property,” said Wilson. “With the Mustang celebrating 50 years in production, this was a perfect opportunity to do this. It’s a natural thing to do here on the Ford property.”

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates had held an antique car show for many years in February, but this is the first time they have tried limiting it to just one car with modern day cars, too, and not just antiques.

“It’s special to show the Mustang on the Ford property, but like the antique car show we expect people to come from all over to show and to see,” said Wilson, who expects a large crowd to take advantage of the event.
