Electric co-op to hold employee-run yard sale

Attention yard sale enthusiasts. LCEC is about to hold a huge yard sale, and all the proceeds are going for a good cause.
The electric cooperative is turning its parking lot into a giant yard sale with items brought in from its employees on Saturday, from 7 a.m. to noon. at its headquarters at 4980 Bayline Drive, North Fort Myers.
LCEC employees will rent a spot in the yard sale. All proceeds from the rented spots and the sale of refreshments and baked goods will be donated to the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee counties.
According to Barb Panellino, one of the chairpersons in charge of the event, the yard sale is a continuation of its partnership with the United Way.
“We do a lot of fundraising for the United Way. We were brainstorming different ideas and we came up with this,” Panellino said. “We offered our employees a table at $25 and whatever you sell at your table you keep.”
Free parking will be available.
“So far, we have sold 30 spots, but anticipate selling many more,” said employee Leah Maldonado, another event chairperson. Employees will be selling everything from clothes to household decor to children’s toys and much more.
The yard sale is just one of the many events that LCEC does year-round to raise funds for the local United Way.
LCEC holds a golf tournament, fishing tournament, and sells gift cards, among other things to raise money.
“We have done other yard sales for the United Way, but this is the first time we’ve sold tables,” Panellino said. “We hope this will be quite the success.”
LCEC contributes nearly $200,000 a year to the United Way through employee-run events and donations and has been included in the United Way Circle of Excellence for many years.
