Hot Wing Eating Contest set for Feb. 25
A upcoming event will bring the heat, as well as raise awareness for a painful medical condition.
Dante’s Coal Fired Pizza and Starbucks have teamed up to host a Hot Wing Eating Contest on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4-7 p.m., at 900 S.W. Pine Island Road. The entry fee is $10 per person, with prizes awarded.
“The goal is to raise money for endometriosis,” Alex Nelson, one of the event organizers, said.
The Annual Worldwide EndoMarch will take place later this year.
“So we’re just trying to get it recognized,” she said.
The contest will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
“There’s going to be different levels of heat,” Nelson said.
There will be three rounds, with each round containing fewer but hotter wings.
She noted that ghost peppers are among the ingredients to be used.
“We are going to have everyone sign a waiver,” Nelson said.
First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to those who stick it out the longest.
“The last round is going to be pretty hot,” she said.
The prizes will consist of gift baskets containing gift certificates and such.
“There’s like $300 worth of gifts,” Nelson said.
Organizers are hoping to get as least 50 people sign up to participate.
While people can register the day of the contest, it is preferred that they do so by Thursday.
In addition to the contest, the event will feature live music and children’s activities.
The children’s area will include face painting, a cup decorating station and other arts and crafts.
There will also be a beer truck on site and wines available. The restaurant will be open and serving, as well.
