Ita M. Neymotin admitted as attorney to the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces
The Fort Myers attorney will serve the military and others in Washington, D.C.
The Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, Region 2, recently announced that Regional Counsel, Ita M. Neymotin has been admitted as an attorney to the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (USCAAF) in Washington D.C.
The official certificate was presented March 6 by Maj. Mark Brewer, U.S. Army; Sgt. Sean Powers, U.S. Marine Corps; and Sgt. Maricela Rivera, U.S. Air Force, all military veteran staff of Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, Region 2.
Admission to the USCAAF is reserved for attorneys who meet extraordinary professional standards. The appointment allows her to represent members of the armed forces on active duty and others subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice over a broad range of legal issues, including constitutional law, criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure, ethics, administrative law and national security law.
USCAAF Chief Judge Kevin A. Ohlson wrote a personal letter of welcome to Neymotin based upon her dedication to justice that comes from her unique family history as a refugee from Kazakhstan, formerly the Soviet Union. “The execution of your grandfather and persecution of your father by Soviet authorities undoubtedly haunts you as a grim and chilling reminder of the terrors so often inflicted by totalitarian regimes,” Ohlson wrote in the letter. “But you have managed to transcend this trauma by defending your fellow citizens’ civil liberties and by serving as a strong and effective advocate for those without a voice.”
U.S. Navy, Retired, Chief Petty Officer Joshua Johansen, and attorney for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel said, “It is inspiring to see our Regional Counsel become qualified to advocate for military personnel during their appeals before the court. It demonstrates Ms. Neymotin’s respect for the military and her willingness to prioritize serving those who serve our country and by doing so, increase access to justice.”
Neymotin is a death-penalty attorney and former chair of the Florida Bar Standing Committee of Professionalism. She is a member of various statewide legal committees and is the current chairperson of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit Professionalism Panel. Neymotin enjoys spending time with her family and mentoring young attorneys to make them better advocates.
