Sanibel Captiva Community Bank celebrates 20th anniversary
Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is celebrating 20 years of business in Lee County this year, a milestone reached with steady growth and an unwavering commitment to the Southwest Florida community.
The bank was founded and chartered on Sanibel in 2003 by former president and CEO Craig Albert as a locally owned and operated community bank, primarily serving the residents and businesses of Sanibel and Captiva islands. In 2023, SanCap Bank now has eight locations throughout Lee County, over 100 employees and nearly $750 million in total assets. The bank has a customer base of over 15,000, $680 million in deposits and close to $600 million in loans.
In 2008, the bank added a residential lending division with two employees. Today, the residential lending team makes up almost 25% of employees and has funded over $2.5 billion in residential loans. A commercial lending department was added in 2016 and has successfully closed $500 million in commercial loans.
The bank enters its 20th year under the leadership of a new president and chief executive officer, Kyle DeCicco. DeCicco was named the bank’s president and chief executive officer on Jan. 1 after bank founder Craig Albert transitioned to chair of the Sanibel Captiva Community Bank board of directors.

The bank considers its team members among its greatest assets, one that has grown 93% increase over the past seven years. The bank’s investment in employees has paid off. The bank has a low staff turnover of just over 2%. For five consecutive years, the bank experienced a savings under the federal tax law and subsequently rewarded employees with an additional bonus to show appreciation for their contributions to the bank’s success. When bank shares become available, the board and executive management offer those shares to employees. As a result, over 60% of team members are current bank shareholders.
SanCap Bank supports over 300 not-for-profit, local community causes – from The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools and Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties to Valerie’s House and F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva – through an impactful combination of donations, pro bono work and volunteerism. Every member of the bank’s board of directors is involved in charitable organizations, and over 65% of employees are nonprofit volunteers logging in almost 1,000 volunteer hours annually. Since the bank opened, it has contributed more than $2.5 million to local charitable causes.
In response to the damage Hurricane Ian caused Southwest Florida, specifically on Sanibel and Captiva islands, the bank immediately mobilized and began helping the islands recover and rebuild. Days after the storm the bank opened its Main Office on Periwinkle Way on Sanibel, using the parking lot to provide customers with cash services and access to safety deposit boxes. In the weeks after the storm, staff provided over 1,500 free meals in the parking lot to island residents, business owners and relief workers. The bank also donated over $100,000 to 12 local organizations working the front lines of relief efforts, including F.I.S.H of Sanibel-Captiva, Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation, The Heights Foundation and The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools.
