Back-to-school sales tax holiday is now four weeks long

Tallahassee, FL – With school just around the corner, the Florida Retail Federation encourages Florida families to stock up on supplies during the Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday. Beginning Monday, July 24, and running through Sunday, August 6, Florida families can save taxes on clothing, footwear, backpacks, school supplies, personal computers, and more. The traditional tax holiday has expanded this school year to include a second tax-exempt period from Jan. 1 through Jan. 14, 2024.
“Florida retail stores are stocked up and ready to offer incredible deals to help Florida’s families prepare for the school year,” said Scott Shalley, president and CEO of the Florida Retail Federation. “When you shop Florida retail during the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, you’re supporting Florida businesses, Florida jobs and Florida communities.”
The following items are available for purchase tax-free from July 24 through Aug. 6:
• Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item;
• Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item;
• Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less; and
• Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use.
A recent survey by the National Retail Federation revealed that more than half (55%) of consumers began shopping for school supplies earlier this month. The forecast expects increased spending on big-ticket electronic items as 69% of back-to-school shoppers plan to purchase laptops, tablets, calculators and more this year.
There are more than 300,000 retail stores in Florida, and one in three jobs is tied to Florida retail. When shoppers “Find It In Florida” and shop local retailers, they help boost the local economy and support community businesses. Learn more about the “Find It In Florida” program at the website.
