Children’s Advocacy Center welcomes new board member Karen Hawes and selects officers

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida (CAC) announces the addition of a new member to its board of directors: Karen Hawes, retired Lee County manager and currently a milliner with her company Hats by Hawes.

Hawes and her husband Richard moved to Florida in 1984. Throughout her career with the Lee County government, she held various positions and established progressive social programs that gained national recognition. She was honored for her work after Hurricane Charley and later became Lee County manager before retiring in 2012.

In retirement, she started a millinery business creating unique designer hats for women for special events here and internationally. She is married with four children, three grandchildren, and two fur babies.

“The knowledge and length of Karen’s dedication to the social service needs in Lee County and her commitment to its citizens makes her a perfect addition to our CAC board,” said Julie Boudreaux, CEO of CAC.

The new CAC Slate of officers are Board President; Jake Spanberger, Entech IT Consulting, Vice President; John Clinger of Clinger, Sizemore & Associates, Merrill Lynch, Treasurer; John Pearson, Fiddlesticks, Secretary; Karla Y. Campos- Andersen Esq., and Past President, Cole Peacock of C3 Investments. Other board members include Charles Idelson, Executive VP & Regional President, Busey Bank; Jessica Walker, Marketing & PR Manager for Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co.; Dr. Martin Sherman, Retired Pediatrician; Sgt. Yadi Perez-Luna, Youth Services, LCSO; Emily Hunter, Communications & Legislative Coordinator, Hendry County Board of County Commissioners, Norman Lutz.
