Hurricane Ian Insurance Villages continue in Southwest Florida

Today, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) announced that the Division of Consumer Services will host Insurance Villages on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET in Punta Gorda and Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET in Fort Myers.
The villages will allow policyholders to meet with their property insurer in person and work together to resolve outstanding claims. Representatives from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), the Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters, and more than a dozen insurers are expected to be on hand to assist insurance consumers. Since January, the CFO has also deployed 10 Insurance Villages where over $16.6 million in insurance claims checks were cut by insurance companies for more than 3,000 residents impacted by Hurricane Ian.
Policyholders should bring as much documentation as they can, including:
• A driver’s license or other form of identification (Passport/State issued ID)
• Insurance cards and insurance policy information/documentation
• Pictures or documentation of the property being claimed as a loss resulting from Hurricane Ian
• Repair estimates
• Any additional insurance-related information that is readily accessible.
Please note: The insurance villages will exclusively focus on insurance-related issues, and staff from other agencies will not be present to assist with other post-storm benefits.
