SpaceBox Storage, Classic Rock 94.5 to host Toys For Tots event

4 min read

You can start listening now to Classic Rock 94.5 to qualify for big prizes to be given away at the SpaceBox Storage Grand Opening, an extravaganza that will include a live radio contest, giveaways, a Corvette show and more to benefit Toys For Tots.

The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. with free admission, free food, drinks and giveaways. The highlight of the day will be during a live broadcast from the event, where 30 qualified contests will vie for big prizes.

When you tune into the station this week, you’ll hear that listeners are instructed to listen for a specific sound on the air and call in to be a qualifier.

“When they hear that sounder, they will have to call in and be the ninth caller, who will be automatically qualified for the air contest,” said Susan Nystrom, marketing consultant for 94.5. “The on-air qualifying will go straight through Dec. 5. If they don’t win on the air, they’ll have another chance to qualify that day at SpaceBox.”

Each qualifier will be on site during the event and will randomly select a number from the prize vault. All qualifiers will win a prize and 10 lucky winners will open a storage unit containing a valuable prize inside.

“It’s a very unique contest for this area,” said Nystrom.

The radio contest started this week.

“One of the prizes is a $1,000 gift card from the Diamond District. The main granddaddy of the prizes is a brand new, 2008 motor scooter from Two Wheeled Dreams, a JCL150cc model with a retail value of $2,200,” she said.

Other prizes include free beer for a year, free pizza for a year, free home air-conditioning service for a year, shopping mall gift cards, restaurant certificates, lottery tickets and Miami Dolphin tickets.

“And three lucky customers will win a 10 x 10 air conditioned storage unit for a year,” added Steve Shortino, general manager of SpaceBox Storage. “There will also be a Corvette show that day. The Southwest Florida Corvette Club will be hosting the show here that day, with vintage Corvettes.”

There’s free admission, and the free food from locals Coconuts Restaurant, Jersey’s Sports Cafe, North Fort Tavern, Lenny C’s Chicago Pizza and Boar’s Head hot dogs.

The fund-raiser is the main reason for the day, said Shortino. Toy donations brought that day will benefit Toys For Tots. The business and the station will accepting new, un-wrapped toys prior to and during the event.

He’s big on fund raising. A few months ago, the newly opened SpaceBox Storage donated 100 percent of the first month’s rental unit income directly to fallen Police Officer Andrew Widman’s family and raised significant funds.

“We raised over $4,700 for Suzanna Widman and her three children,” he said.

For the grand opening, there are special offers.

“We’re offering two months free for all new customers,” said Shortino. “We’re inviting everyone to come out and check out our new facility at the event. You can enjoy free food from area restaurants, soft drinks, music and free admission and you can win fabulous door prizes. This is a toy drive, so we encourage customers to bring a brand new toy for Toys For Tots.”

The new state-of-the-art facility is located at 14251 N. Cleveland Ave., and features 985 climate and non-climate controlled spaces.

For information, call 995-5100 during regular business hours which are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After hours call manager Shortino at 313-8182.
