On February 16, 2009 at approximately 3:45 pm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1400 Hampton Road, North Fort Myers, in reference to a deceased person. The Major Crimes Unit began a death investigation which turned into a murder investigation. A legal identification has been made on the victim. It is Harry Oscar Peters.

The victim has been tentatively identified as Harry Oscar Peters, a white male born on April 28, 1932. During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim’s vehicle along with personal items were missing.

On Wednesday, February 18, 2009 detectives discovered the items in question had been pawned within two hours of each other at several local pawn shops. The pawn broker at each location positively identified Aaron Brett Gillin, DOB 7-10-81, as the person who pawned the items in question.

Deputies made contact with Gillin, who was still driving the vehicle in question. Gillin was arrested and charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Detectives say Gillin is also a person of interest in the homicide of Harry Peters.

Gillin is the grandson of Peters.
