Despite high winds, cancer survivors and research supports supported the North Fort Myers local Relay For Life event held Saturday through Sunday morning.

Teams of local supporters gathered for the 18-hour event to help raise funds.

“The theme this year is Relay Around the World,” said coordinator Beth Hayes, a staff partner for the Lee County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The event began at noon Saturday when participants took to a track in the North Fort Myers Wal-Mat parking lot where the event was held.

“The bond between community, family and survivorship is amazing,” said NFM Wal-Mart store manager Donna Schultz.

Local North Fort Myers teams include Piney Road Auto Repair, Team Victorious Against Cancer (Victory Lane Cafe); Dragon’s Pride (North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts); Wal-Mart, and Team USA.

Featured entertainment this year included Ronnie Morgan and his band and local singer Brooke Huffmaster.
