Pool starts summer hours this week, sports new look
Summer hours started this week at the North Fort Myers Community Pool, which, after several months of renovations, has a new look.
“We have definitely gotten a lot of compliments about the new, modern look,” said Christie Davis, aquatics specialist. “We have a lot of new shapes and structures since the remodel. There are more pavilions, and the slides are up and running.”
“I think it is outstanding,” said Senior Recreation Specialist Trever Snearley of the pool’s make-over. “If you haven’t been here before, you’ll be amazed, and you’ll be amazed at the new look if have been here before as well.”
There are two slides at the pool.
“Anybody using the slides has to pass a swim test,” Davis noted.
Summer hours started June 20 and are now Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; and Sundays, 1 to 4:45 p.m.
“We also kicked off our summer swim program June 20,” Davis continued. “We offer Learn To Swim classes Monday through Thursday, Saturdays and Sundays and two evenings a week – Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will go through mid-August.”
The cost is $40 for eight lessons.
“We also have morning aerobics classes every day, Monday through Friday, at 10 a.m., and Arthritis Aquasize on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.,” Davis said. “We have a new session starting every two weeks.”
Aquasize is an impact-free exercise class which improves strength, flexibility and endurance.
Staff training is complete.
“The summer staff is in and trained now, with lifeguard training finished last week, she said. “There are some new staff members. They are really excited to be here.”
Davis said to check the Web site, leeparks.org, for specific information and times for all activities.
Admission is $1.50 for children 18 and under, $2.50 for adults and $2 for seniors 50 and older.
The pool is located at 5170 Orange Grove Blvd. The phone number is 656-7763.
