Fatal Shooting
On Sunday, July 26, 2009, at 3:13 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a shooting. Deputies responded to the area of Martin Avenue South and 27th Street S.W. in Lehigh Acres. A woman was found critically injured in a red car. EMS was contacted to respond. Upon arrival, it was determined the woman had been shot. The victim, identified as 29 year old Takilia Smith of Lehigh Acres, was airlifted to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital. The victim succumbed to her injuries.
Due to the nature of the incident, homicide detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. Crime scene technicians responded to the scene to collect and document evidence. The District 21 Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy. No other details are being released at this time. The investigation continues.
