New hours, new specials at VFW

Beginning Monday, Aug. 3, the local North Fort Myers VFW Post 10127 will increase its hours of operation, and introduce new specials to increase membership interest.
The hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the post on Mondays and Tuesdays. Formerly the hours were noon to 8 p.m.
Quartermaster Larry Hall said he hopes more will join the local VFW, with the new specials and the new hours.
“The ‘Dollar Day Madness’ will go Mondays and Tuesdays,” he said.
The membership drive is seeking veterans of foreign wars or conflicts, according to Hall.
“Membership dues are only $27 per year,” he said. “You get full access to the bar/canteen facilities, and there are benefits from the national VFW.”
He said that includes health care, dental care – even pet care.
“They even have pet insurance benefits you can take advantage of,” he said.
The local VFW has a lot of activities throughout the month. Hall is encouraging local residents to stop by and look at a calendar of events for the month.
There is bingo during the week, and Sunday nights are special.
“Sunday nights we have a buffet and entertainment also from 4 to 8 p.m.,” he said. “Wednesday night we have entertainers, Thursday night they have bingo along with tacos and wings. Friday night we have a light basket menu, with live entertainment. Saturday night we have karaoke. We have karaoke the third and fourth evening of the month.
However, in August, the third Saturday, we will start having karaoke every Saturday of the month.”
Hall said he and other officials are trying to step up use at the post with all of the activities.
About the atmosphere at the club, he summed it up in one word – “Camaraderie.”
“We talk about experiences and our daily activities,” he said. “It’s very relaxing and enjoyable.”
“I love it,” he said, of all the time he spends at the post. “I wouldn’t volunteer all my time if I didn’t.”
He notes that Post Commander Cliff Naylor is a special individual.
“He is also involved in a special project, the heart behind the ’21 Wounded’ project,” he said.
