Teens can try for Guitar Hero title at NFM Library
The North Fort Myers Public Library will hold leg two of it’s popular Guitar Hero World Tour Tournament Tuesday, July 7. The event was wildly popular during round one held last week.
“There’s a tremendous amount of interest among our teenagers in the Guitar Hero Tournament,” said Denise Singleton, children’s librarian.
The teens with the highest virtual drummer and guitar scores from botthe Gulf Coast Town Center with winners from other libraries.
“We also have some give-aways, caps and air guitars, with a grand prize to be determined,” Singleton continued.
North Fort Myers’ Ray Reedy-Chavez is one teen who was eager to sign up and compete in the tournament.
“I love Guitar Hero and play it all the time,” he said. He’ll be competing for highest guitar score.
Library Associate Lillie Mason helps run the competition.
“There’s a lot of excitement about it and the kids are really into the competition. It’s a great time,” she said.
The event is for kids grades 6 through 12, and the library supplies the equipment. Competitors can call or just go in that day.
The event is part of the “Read It! Watch It! Win It!” Teen Summer Reading Program at the library. The program started June 9 and runs through July 25.
“The program is also a chance for teens to win “Teen Bucks” which they can use to bid on items at our July 25 auction/party,” Singleton said. “We’re working on prizes now.”
The auction/party will be held in the library meeting room at 2 p.m. on that Saturday. Teens are required to have “Teen Bucks” to attend. If they have leftover “Teen Bucks” at the end of the summer, they can use them to pay down library fines July 27 through Aug. 31. Check with the library for terms and conditions.
The bucks are earned by reviewing books and attending programs.
