Christ Community Church holding school supply drive, picnic

2 min read

Christ Community Church will hold a community back-to-school picnic, chili cook-off with a school supply give-away on Saturday, Aug. 15. The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

They will be giving away more than 200 book bags filled with school supplies.

“We are collecting school supplies now and will distribute them at the picnic,” said Rose Crislip, church secretary.

There will also be booths with vendors set up for the community to receive information that may be helpful to their families.

The picnic, as with others in the past, is free and open to the public. The last time the church held a picnic, several hundred local residents attended and were treated to free hot dogs and other barbecue items. This year, guests will be able to sample chili.

“There will be a free lunch, and we have a big bounce house and waterslide and numerous other little giveaways, with fun things for the kids,” Crislip said.

Church services there include:

Sundays:

– 9:30 a.m. Sunday School

– 10:30 a.m. Worship Service

Wednesdays:

– 6:30 p.m. Awana Children s Program

– 6:45 p.m. Prayer, Worship and Bible Study

Thursdays

– 7 p.m. Unveiled (U.V.) Teen Group

Saturdays

– 4 20 Fusion Group for 18 – 30 year olds

New at the church is the 4 20 Fusion, which Crislip leads.

“I’m excited about this group,” she said. “We’re here to give young people an alternative for a Saturday night out – instead of hanging out or going to a bar, an alternative place to be. This is a place where you can make wholesome relationships.”

Pastors include Senior Pastor Bob Hamway, Associate Pastor Jesse Robinson and Outreach and Missions Pastor Ivor Marchany.
