Spearfishing tornament and photo contest announced to benefit Harry Chapin Food Bank
Fish-Tale Marina, Fort Myers Beach, is hosting “Spear Fest 2009,” a spearfishing tournament and photo contest, which will benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank. The three-day event will be held Friday-Sunday, September 11-13. The top cash prize to be offered is $1,000. Team and individual competitions will be held, with scuba, freedivers, and families welcome.
Teams of up to three members may enter the spearfishing competition. The August 28 pre-registration cost is $195 per member. A Friday, Sep. 11, captain’s meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. The competition can begin at daylight on Sat., Sep. 12, and will conclude by 8:00 p.m.
The photo contest includes four categories of photos taken under water by divers: macro, wide angle, diver interaction, and fish portrait. The cost for entering is $20, plus $2 for each image.
In addition to the spearfishing and photo competition on Sat., Sep. 12, a diving expo will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and a variety of information booths will be available.
The awards ceremonies for all events will be held on Sun., Sep. 13. Individuals not participating in the competition may attend at a banquet cost of $25.
