With a studio that looks out over the Caloosahatchee River, nationally acclaimed artist and North Fort Myers resident Greg Biolchini recently treated art enthusiasts to a portrait demonstration in pastels.

Besides local residents, guests came from Naples and Sanibel to see the “how-to” at his studio.

He does demonstrations during workshops like this around the country, but wanted to do a home-base one this summer.

“The best part of a workshop for me is the demonstration,” he said. “There’s no better way to communicate my experience as a painter. My workshops are in oil, pastel and drawing.”

The sessions take about two hours, where the artist explains step-by-step the process of doing a portrait. He invited audience comments and showed a sense of humor with several explanations.

Subject Ron Kopko loved the finished work.

“It’s like looking in a mirror – only better,” he said.

Attendee Ann Cox traveled from Naples to see the demonstration.

“As always, Greg is a fantastic teacher and artists,” he said. “I’ve studied with him for many years, and I feel he’s one of the best artists in the area.”

His next demo will be Sunday, Sept. 27, at his North Fort Myers studio or “Greg’s Riverfront Studio,” as he calls it. The cost is $10 per person.

Most recently, Biolchini judged the Northwest Pastel Society International Exhibition in Tacoma, Wash.

His background includes being named Visual Artist of the Year in 2006 by Angels for the Arts of the Alliance of the Arts. He’s also had exhibitions at the von Liebeg Art Center in Naples, painted the founding dean of Florida Gulf State University and even painted in the Everglades with artist Frank Corso.

Locally, he’ll be having workshops from the month of November through May. To view his work, go to biolchini.com. For more information, call 910-6088.
