Lee County Domestic Animal Services will celebrate National Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month with a $25 reduction in dog adoption fees during October. LCDAS will also hold a Howl-o-ween Paw-ty for people and pets, a Pet Microchip ID Clinic and Gold Exchange Fundraiser on Oct. 24 from noon to 2 p.m. at the shelter, 5600 Banner Dr., Fort Myers.

Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month was launched by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to draw attention to the many wonderful shelter dogs awaiting new families across the country. Locally, LCDAS takes in more than 5,000 dogs each year that need new homes.

Puppies may be adopted for only $70 (regularly $95); adult dogs for only $50 (regularly $75); and senior pets, six years or older, will be free during October. All dog adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, worming, heartworm test if six months or older, county license if three months or older, Microchip ID, 10-day health guarantee, and a bag of Science Diet puppy or dog food.

The Howl-o-ween Paw-ty and other activities on the 24th will feature the following:

– Pet Contests – Costume, Owner/Pet Look-a-Like, and Best Trick. Prizes awarded.

– Games for pets.

– Hot dogs, sodas, and ice cream for people.

– Pet Microchip ID Clinic. Microchips will be available for only $15 per pet or for $5 with proof of public assistance.

– Noble Jewelers Gold Exchange Fundraiser, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring old gold and silver to sell and Noble Jeweler’s will make a donation to the Animal Care Trust Fund.
