Teen Charged With Attempted Murder
On Thursday, October 22, 2009, at approximately 2:55 a.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Edisto Lakes apartment complex in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they met with the victim, Francis R. Duffy (DOB 1/11/89). Deputies learned Duffy was gathering items from his parked vehicle when he was approached by an unknown black male.
The unknown male asked Duffy for a cigarette. During the conversation, the male suspect brandished a firearm. Upon seeing the gun, Duffy ran away from the male as shots were fired by the suspect. Duffy was shot in the back by one of the bullets, but continued to run from the suspect until he found a place to hide near the rear of the apartment complex. Duffy made contact with his friends who then called 911.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. Detectives met with witnesses and learned the suspect ran from the scene into neighboring Harlem Heights. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Aviation Units responded to assist with the investigation, but did not locate the suspect.
Crime Scene Unit Investigators were able to recover the suspect’s fingerprints at the crime scene. The prints were analyzed by Latent Forensics Examiners, who matched the prints to Timothy Dortch (11/27/91). Investigators presented a photo of Dortch to the victim, who provided a positive identification. On Thursday, October 29, 2009, investigators met with Dortch, who had already been in custody for an unrelated crime. Dortch has been charged with one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder.
Dortch’s address is listed as 10461 Joe Green Court, Fort Myers.
