Postmaster shares holiday story
Postmaster Barber and employees at the Naples Main Post Office have been inspired by a local man who was injured in an auto accident that was no fault of his own. Letter carrier Lenny DeAugustino met Chad Holland in 2007 and was inspired by his story. At that time Chad was recovering from an accident he survived only as a result of wearing his seat belt. His injuries were severe. Lenny asked Chad to share his story with co-workers at the Post Office to stress the importance of defensive driving and wearing a seat belt. Lenny who is chairman of the Safety & Health committee at the Naples Post Office credit’s Chad’s visit for making safe defensive driving a daily priority for Naples postal drivers.
A year after the accident Chad had lost his home and his job due to seizures he was suffering as a result of the accident. In addition, complications led to the amputation of his leg. When Lenny learned of the hardships Chad and his family were experiencing he once again invited Chad to come and speak with the postal employees to remind them that the effects of an automobile accident can just keep “snowballing”.
Recently Lenny learned that Chad and his family had fallen on hard times. They were living in their car, Chad had been unable to find work and his wife had been laid off from her job. They had been evicted from their apartment. Lenny asked postal employees at the Naples Post Office to help the family have a Merry Christmas. A collection was taken and $1,000.00 was raised to help this family have a roof over their heads on Christmas morning. The check was presented to the family at the Post Office on Thursday, December 17th.
