Driver Dies After Driving Car Into Canal
On Thursday, February 25, 2009 at 8:21 a.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received 911 call in which the caller reported that a vehicle had just driven into a canal on Fern Trail Drive in the Willow Creek Subdivision of North Fort Myers.
Deputies responded to the scene and members of the North Fort Myers Fire Department removed the driver. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The vehicle involved was a 1998 Toyota. Traffic investigators have confirmed that vehicles made during 1998 are not part of the Toyota recall.
The driver was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and later died. He has been identified as:
