Sheriff Scott Visits Troops As Part Of “Boss Lift”
Sheriff Mike Scott has returned to Florida following an action packed weekend with U.S. troops in Fort Hood, Texas. Sheriff Scott is one of about fifty business, government and law enforcement leaders from Florida invited to the base for “Boss Lift.” The invitations from the U.S. Army were extended to leaders who have employees serving in the military. The Army also paid the group’s way.
Sheriff Scott’s group witnessed firsthand live fire training with a moving convoy of armored vehicles. The group watched as the troops moved through an urban operations range that included exact replica Iraqi buildings. There were also exercises of highly advanced, computer simulated fighting.
“In short, I saw our very best at their very best,” remarked Sheriff Scott. “I could not help but gain an even greater appreciation for what these brave men and women do to protect the freedom we enjoy.”
The group ate with the troops at the “chow hall” and many members stayed on the base for the weekend.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has two members actively serving. Detective Paul O’Leary of the Major Crimes Unit will be deployed to Kuwait soon. Lieutenant Scott Lucia of the Watch Commander’s Group was deployed for assignment to assist with Haitian relief efforts.
