50th+ couples attended wedding anniversary party in NFM
The Old Bridge Village Social Alliance held a more than special event last weekend – 57 couples honored their 50 to 70 years of marriage.
The top couple was Mabel and Harry Kinghorn, originally from Connecticut, who celebrated their 70th year of marriage.
“We met in grammar school,” said Harry. “It was a one room school house, and I was in school with her brother. I knew the moment I met her we would be married.”
She was only 16 at the time, and he was 20.
They have now lived in Florida for 24 years, many happy ones, they both said.
Couples were treated to a luncheon, and prizes were given to couples who were married the longest, resided at Old Bridge Village the longest and more.
It was a celebration of the bond many feel with each other.
Andre and Louis Tomalino have been married 68 years; Bert and June Arens, Gerry and Dessie David and Bob and Donna Halleran have been married 64 years.
Ellen Halleran is the head of Community Service for Old Bridge Village, and the daughter-in-law of Bob and Donna Halleran, one of the couples that celebrated 64 years.
“They (the community) did this two or three years ago and it was so successful we decided to do it every two to three years from now on.
“We’ve had 100 percent response of those who heard about it,” she continued. “We had a sign up sheet up for three weeks and many were singing up the first day.”
She shopped all week for decorations. “It’s like a wedding reception,” she noted.
There was music, dancing and more. Most of all, it was a celebration of love.
