Tucker one of two candidates running for ‘mayor’

Editor’s Note: The race is on! Two candidates are running for NFM honorary mayor. This week The Neighbor will profile Dr. Terry L. Tucker, OD. and next week we will profile John Gardner as the other top candidate.
Dr. Tucker attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, and earned his undergraduate degree and Optometric Doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., before coming to Lee County in 1985. While at Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Tucker was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Fraternity. Besides maintaining his own private practice, he has been a consultant to the Veterans Administration Clinic.
Tucker is a past president of the Florida Optometric Association and is active in the Southern Council of Optometrists, the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry and the Southwest Florida Optometric Association. He currently serves as a proctor for State Board Exam.
He also is a past president for the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, past membership director of Boy Scouts of America, and is past president of the North Fort Myers Rotary Club and has been named Rotarian of the Year.
His hobbies include fishing, golf and spending time with his family.
Tucker currently resides in North Fort Myers with his wife Carol and daughter Hailey.
Each year the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce hosts an event that is talked about all year.
The 2010 Honorary Mayor Hoedown Barbecue will be no exception.
“We have two individuals running for honorary mayor this year that represents the rich fabric of this community,” said Kim Constantine, executive director of the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce.
“Dr. Terry Tucker and John Gardner have given their time, talent and treasure to support our community but it is their giving hearts that display why people love to live in North Fort Myers.”
This year the unique down home venue calls to the entire community. The Chamber is planning on making this a family event with food and fun for everyone. “We would love to encourage the local businesses, chamber members and non chamber members to participate.”
The first honorary mayor, Tommy Hoolihan with Hoolihan Lifestyle Center, has offered his 18-acre private Maranatha Gardens to create a true Southern style barbecue. There will be plenty of parking, music, food and community spirit for a grand time.
Tickets are $25 per person. Kids are $7. There will be appetizers, full out barbecue, a chili cook-off (cooks to be announced), a silent auction and live auction, and desert with beverage. All proceeds support The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce business and community programs and services. Visit nfmchamber.org for more information.
Mark your calendar for Friday, March 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. Call The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Welcome center at 997-9111 to reserve your ticket.
