Save the Pets Alliance Pet Fair

The Save the Pets Alliance announced that it has teamed up with Coral Veterinary Clinic for a Pet Fair at Coral Vet, Sunday, May 2, from noon to 4 p.m.

Bring your family (two and four legged) for an afternoon of fun-filled entertainment, interactive & informative exhibits, prizes and giveaways, and good company. The Pet Fair will feature the latest products, services, info and advice for pet-parents.

Lee County VOICE volunteers will fingerprint kids, activities will also include Veterinary Acupuncture, Laser Therapy Demo and PETCO with the Prize Wheel.

Relay For Life

The Relay For Life North Fort Myers event will be held Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15 at J. Colin English Elementary. The 18-hour event begins at 6 p.m. on the 14th ends at noon on the 15th. J. Colin English Elementary School is located at 120 Pine Island Rd.

Free Caregiver Assistance Program

CARE (Caregiver Assistance and Regional Education) Program designed to provide caregivers free comprehensive help will be hosted by Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in May.

This series of sessions will be held May 4, 6, 11 and 13 at the North Fort Myers Good Shepherd United Methodist Church from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The church is located at 2951 Trail Dairy Circle in North Fort Myers.

The sessions will provide information to caregivers on how to provide enhanced care for their loved ones while also better maintaining their own emotional and physical health and well-being.

This program is free for anyone in Lee County who can benefit from this information. To register, call 866-231-0921.

Traditional Summer Camp at the Alva Community Center

This camp offer a full day of excitement! This camp is for children ages 6 to 13 years old. The camp day begins as early as 7:30 a.m and ends at 6 p.m. Day camp activities include arts and crafts, sports, organized games, quiet play, educational speakers, water activities, outdoor activities, field trips, skating, swimming, and much more.

Regular registration is $67 per week/child. Register online and get 10 percent off per week at leeparks.org. Registration includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. For more information call 728-2882.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at North Fort Myers High

The musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be presented by North Fort Myers High School on Thursday, April 29, Friday April 30 and Saturday, May 1, at 7 p.m. On Sunday, May 2 a matinee will be featured at 2 p.m.

It is the biggest drama theater production of the year and involves many programs. Ticket prices are students $5 and adults $8. The school is located at 5000 Orange Grove Blvd. For information call 995-2117.

Republican Women’s Club to begin candidate forums

Biennial candidate forums begin for the Fort Myers Republican Women’s Club with the appearance of two candidates on Tuesday, April 20, at The Helm Club, The Landings, South Fort Myers. State Attorney Steve Russell and Public Defender Kathy Smith will discuss the intricacies of their jobs and their qualifications for being re-elected. Neither candidate has opposition. A question-and-answer session will follow their prepared remarks.

The public is invited to attend. A social hour begins at 11:15 a.m. with the luncheon and candidate forum following at noon.

The cost for the luncheon is $16; reservations are required by Thursday, April 15, and may be made by contacting Tina Laurie, 489-4701.

The Fort Myers Republican Women’s Club is affiliated with the Florida Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women. Additional information about the club may be obtained by contacting the past president, Marilyn Stout, at 549-5629.

Vavrina’s art featured

in Commissioner Hall’s office

Lee County Commissioner Tammy Hall is supporting local artists by giving them an opportunity to display their artwork in her Fort Myers office.

This month the artwork of the late Charles Laurel Vavrina will be on display in Commissioner Hall’s downtown Fort Myers office until May 14.

Vavrina, an impressionist American artist, was born in Wisconsin and lived here in Fort Myers. Many of his works have been influenced by Van Gogh and Vlaminck. The artwork is on loan from the artist’s gallery.

The public is welcome to view the artwork and learn more about the artist. Please call 533-2226 to confirm office hours for viewing the artwork.

“The arts are an important part of the cultural and development of our community” says Commissioner Hall. “I believe that government can play an important role in public awareness, developing the use of public spaces for display and interaction of art, and for the encouragement and commitment of continued financial support both public and private of all the arts.”

Other local artists will be featured every four to six weeks. Hall’s office is on the first floor of the Old County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street in downtown Fort Myers.

North Olga Community Planning Panel to meet April 18

The North Olga Community Planning Panel is meeting on Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m., at 17350 Nalle Road, North Fort Myers. The meeting is open to the public.

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeking volunteers

Big Brothers Big Sisters of SWFL is in need of volunteers in all areas of its program. The Community Mentoring Program involves visiting a child within the community and engaging in activities throughout the month. Bigs in Schools is a school based program where the mentor visits the child for one hour weekly at school for at least 12 weeks. Assistance with homework assignments and discussion of issues may be included in this service.

Couples can be matched with a little brother in the Couples Match Program.
