Inaugural performance of new Tara Woods Showcase Chorus April 9

2 min read

A new Tara Woods Showcase Chorus will debut on Friday, April 9, at the helm of its original founder and director.

The annual spring performance at the community this year is titled “Celebration!” Resident Betty Lauzon, who started the group in 1998, is back this year.

“This is very different than what has been done in the past eight years,” said spokesperson George Daly. “Betty is incorporating choreography, recorded music rather than piano, and more.”

After founding the group in 1998, Lauzon worked with them for three years then had other endeavors.

While the years in her absence the group has produced many great performances, he said, but Lauzon has returned with a different take.

“She has over 32 years experience singing with the Sweet Adelines,” he said. “She has a lot of theater background as well. She’s bringing her own enthusiasm and a more theatrical presentation to the show, to the chorus and the community.”

Interest in the chorus has grown incredibly this year. “It is a big chorus, with 30-plus singers and more behind the scenes. There are more behind-the- scenes people this year that enhance the show,” he said.

“Celebration!” will feature a wide range of songs, including “New York, New York,” “This Could Be The Start Of Something Big,” “Everything Old Is New Again” and even the Three Dog Night’s’ “Joy To The World.” And of course the song “Celebration.”

The show itself has evolved, he said.

“It is not just the chorus singing, it was also be side acts. There will also be a narrator for the show as well.”

More props will also be included. “Limbo Rock” will be complete with the limbo stick and more.

The spring performance “Celebration!” will take place at Tara Woods, at 19376 US Hwy. 41 N., in North Fort Myers, beginning at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $7, and can be reserved in advance through Polly Brown at 731-1614, and are available at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
