A 17-year veteran of the local Lee County Sheriff’s Office Alpha Station was named as Officer of the Month. Cpl. Pete Roch was nominated by Lt. Steve Edlin for May 2010.

“Cpl. Pete Roch came to this agency in 1993 and has been a member of the Alpha District since that time period, until his recent transfer to the Civil Division in the Domestic Violence Bureau,” said Edlin. “Cpl. Roch served as a patrol officer working in the high crime areas in our District.” Deputy Jarrod Cantrell said. “His longevity really makes him a vital part of his force. He knows the people and the area of North Fort Myers.” Roch was asked to reflect on those 17 years “Over the years, I’ve been elected deputy of the month twice – one was for a fatal crash – a hit and run fatality – and I was able to found the car that caused it. Also for a bank robbery. We located the car as it left the bank and took the bank robber in custody.

“It’s day to day,” he said, “just part of the job.” The years in North Fort Myers really have gone quickly. “Members of the community really appreciate you.”

His work has been so impressive, that he has recently been transferred to do a county-wide job, with the Domestic Violence Unit. “It is a proactive approach to curb future domestic violence,” he said. “Roch is a dedicated officer that has made countless felony and misdemeanor arrests. Due to officers like Deputy Roch Lee County is a safer place to live,” concluded Edlin in his formal nomination.
