Every month, local law enforcement personnel are recognized at the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce with one announced as “Officer of the Month.”

Many are detectives, like Detective Gary Shott.

In April, it was Shott who received the honor, not only for a specific incident, but for being one of their “go-to” guys in the department.

Lt. Steve Edlin nominated Shott as the local Alpha District Officer of the Month for helping lead his team.

“Detective Shott is one of the senior detectives in the Alpha District Bureau,” he said in a prepared statement.””He is a dedicated law enforcement officer who has over 25 years experience. In the absences of the Division Detective Sergeant Senior, Detective Shott takes the helm and the division does not miss a beat.

“Detective Shott has solved hundreds of felony crimes and has spent countless hours working cases with little or no sleep until the bad guy was taken off the streets. It has been an honor to serve with this officer in the Alpha District and to be fortunate enough to work with him. Therefore Captain Gossman and myself are proud to recognize Detective Shott for his accomplishment and professionalism.”

Shott has received the honor before, but this recent month warranted a special commendation from Edlin.

“The Command Staff of the Alpha District is proud to nominate Detective Gary Shott as Officer of the Month for April 2010,” he said.
