Scout Woodby works at NFM Recreation Center

To earn the title of Eagle Scout -scouting’s highest honor – one area scout has completed a major project at a local park.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), first awarded in 1912.
Tyler Woodby is a member of Boy Scout Troop 11 from Lehigh Acres. When looking for a local major project to complete one part of his community service towards his Eagle Scout honor, Tyler chose the North Fort Myers Community Park to do needed repairs.
His mother Laura Woodby, who serves as a summer camp counselor, suggested the project. “He’s been in scouts since he was eight years old and he’ll be 16 in August,” Laura said. “I’m very proud of his accomplishments.”
“Besides other work, Tyler painted the lines on the basketball courts, the free throw and boundary lines, and he and other Eagle Scouts built benches for the center,” said Senior Parks and Recreation Specialist June Christine Susterich. “Tyler did all the painting himself. Even our parks maintenance personnel complimented him on the hard work and the exceptionally good job.”
“It is a lot of work, but worth it,” said Tyler. “It is scouting’s highest honor.”
He is currently going through his Eagle Board Review and sent his project book in with everything completed. He had to submit projects, pictures and even budgets. “I actually started working on this last year. We had car washes to raise money, and did some work at Century 21 in Leigh landscaping, toward the projects.”
What does he like most about scouting? “Camping and scuba diving with the scouts. I’ve learned a lot being a scout.”
Famous Eagle Scouts include astronauts, physicists, business leaders and even presidents, including Gerald Ford.
