Urgent plea for greyhound adoptions

2 min read

The Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track stopped racing Monday (for five months) and a lot of greyhounds are out of jobs. The original plan was to give the kennel operators three weeks to move all the dogs but apparently they will now have to leave by Wednesday (6/2). They either get space in an adoption program or they will be euthanized.

Donna Forster of Greyhound Adoption Kennel sent 20 to a Connecticut greyhound group last week and immediately took in 24 more. She’s out of room and out of money — having spent more than $3,000 getting the dogs sterilized and transported to Conn. and taking in new dogs that need food and vet care.

She needs two kinds of help:

1. Foster and permanent homes for some of these sweet, gentle dogs who have earned a happy retirement.

2. Money to help offset the costs of caring and transporting them. (All the money goes to the dogs. No one in the group gets a salary.)

Greyhound Adoption Kennel is a 501 C3 group so donations are tax deductible. Send to: Greyhound Adoption Kennel, 11551 Deal Road, North Fort Myers, FL 33917. Call Donna Forster at 239-731-3187.
