The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 336 of North Fort Myers recently held a ceremony to install new officers, and officials there announced a groundbreaking for a new facility in August.

The dinner was held on Monday, July 19, with District Vice President Maxine Spamer passing on the gavel to Dee Sims in a formal presentation.

Dee Sims was installed as president for a third year. “It is important to me to maintain the goals of our auxiliary, which are taking care of our community, youth and most importantly, our veterans.”

Other officers installed included First Vice President Nina Stoughton, Second Vice President Christine Tressel; Secretary Mary Lou Locke; Treasurer Barbara Kaden, Chaplain Dee Demers, Sergeant-At-Arms Frances Fitzgerald and Historian Nadine Tressel. Also on hand were members of the Executive Committee including Rose Brammer, Lorraine Sattarlee and Gail Ruskai.

Secretary Locke reported several awards achieved recently by the post.

“We were awarded the 100 Percent Membership Award from State of Florida.” Honors were bestowed at the June District 13 Constitutional Conference meeting held in Lehigh Acres. “Also Dee Demers won Best Overall Chaplain from the State of Florida for all American Posts.

“We also received many certificates of appreciation, including those for Children and Youth, Children’s Miracle Network, Past Presidents’ Parley, Unit Historian and the VA Program and Prayer Book,” said Locke.

Formally known as the Ralph W. Sparks American Legion Post 336, officials at the Post also announced that there will be a groundbreaking ceremony on a new facility on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m.

“A new building, 5,000 square feet, will be built on the property with a seating capacity of 200,” said Sims.

“Kyle Kitchens is the architect on the project and Steve Pansing will be the contractor, who will oversee numerous subcontractors. Financing was obtained through SunTrust Bank.”

The project is expected to take six to seven months to complete.

The Post is at 5770 Bayshore Rd. in North Fort Myers. The phone number is 543-1919.
