Bachelor and Bachelorette Auction to Benefit Local Baby With Heart Disease
On Thursday, July 29th from 6-9pm several Fort Myers businesses and residents are joining together to host a Bachelor and Bachelorette Auction to raise funds to help a local family with the rising medical cost necessary to keep their baby alive. The benefit will be held in the Edison Dining Room at the Edison Restaurant and include a Cocktail Reception beginning at 6:00, Bachelor and Bachelorette Auction at 7:00, and other events and prizes throughout the evening.
On July 31st, 2008, Lane Anthony Free entered this world with a bleak prognosis, faced with the challenge of fighting for his life even before he drew his first breath. That fight continues today. Diagnosed in utero with a complex congenital heart defect with multiple complications, he endured his first open heart surgery at only twelve days old. He then spent the first 3 months of life in the cardiovascular ICU.
Shortly after bringing Lane home the family’s insurance provider stated Lane had met his lifetime maximum coverage. Since then, Lane has had a second open heart surgery among numerous other procedures. This miracle baby continues to grow healthy and stronger every month, but will need future open heart surgeries as he gets bigger. However, with minimal insurance coverage and the current economy, this courageous family is struggling to find ways to pay the astronomical medical costs associated with keeping baby Lane alive.
