Chili cook-off at beach to benefit Harry Chapin Food Bank
The American Culinary Federation is drawing nearer to its first chili cook off and the response has been terrific. They have 20 entrees and are looking to add about 10 more. A $35 fee will be required prior to the day of the cook off. Rules and times can be e-mailed upon request.
For those who just want taste the best chili in town, come on down, the chili should be ready by 6 p.m. for you to judge which is your favorite or most unique chili. The official judging will also be starting at 6 p.m. and the winners will be announced around 7 p.m. Beverages will be available for purchase at the Pink Shell bars.
Everyone is encouraged to bring dry and canned goods for the food bank and cash donation will be accepted as well. These are hard times and the food bank is all many of our local charities have to depend on for the food they distribute to those in need.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank solicits, collects and stores quality food for distribution to families in need through a network of more than 170 local nonprofit agencies in Lee, Collier, Hendry, Charlotte and Glades counties, who provide food to more than 25,000 people monthly. 750,000 pounds of food are distributed monthly. In the past fiscal year, The Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed more than nine million pounds of food and other grocery products.
