Local auditions for Thriftiest Shopper Contest Tuesday

2 min read

In North Cape Coral, auditions will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20 at the 1500 Pine Island Rd. Goodwill location for the

“So You Think You’re Thrifty” contest.

For the second straight year, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. is hoping to find Southwest Florida’s best bargain hunter. Auditions for the “So You Think You’re Thrifty” contest will begin on Tuesday, July 20 and run through Tuesday, July 28. The winner will receive prizes, including a $250 Goodwill shopping spree, and will appear in a Goodwill advertisement.

“Last year, we had about 40 people audition for the title,” says Kirsten O’Donnell, Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations. “Since then, we’ve had a steady stream of people asking if we’d do the contest again this year, so we should have a great turnout.”

The 2009 winner was Amy Burns, a then 18-year-old student from Sanibel, who says she’s excited to see this year’s crop of contestants.

“I look forward to getting tips from the best of them,” she says. “I just can’t wait to see the ‘final four’ for this year’s competition. It will be like experiencing all the excitement over again, but this time from a spectator’s point of view.”

Contest entry forms are available at Goodwill’s 24 Southwest Florida Retail & Donation Centers, and on Goodwill’s website (www.goodwillswfl.org). Over the next two weeks, interview-style auditions will be held at six Goodwill locations.

“We’re auditioning people from Port Charlotte down to Naples and across to Clewiston,” says O’Donnell. “We really want to make sure that everyone in Southwest Florida has a chance to try out.”

A list of audition dates, times, and locations is on Goodwill’s website: www.goodwillswfl.org.
