I. Road Projects
Colonial Blvd (CR 884) Six Laning from I-75 to State Rd 82 (approx. 2.7 miles in length) Construction activities began on Monday, August 10, 2009. Proposed work consists of widening an existing four-lane highway facility, to a six-lane urbanized divided highway. This will include the installation of street lighting, signalization, bridge widening and utility modifications. Two 8-
foot-wide asphalt multi-use sidewalks along the north and south sides of the road will be added.
The tentative completion date is April, 2011.
Update 7/15/2010
Colonial Blvd – Utility work began on Oct 1, 2009 and will be ongoing around the bridge over
Cypress Slough and Treeline Avenue on both the north and south side of Colonial Blvd. for a
few more weeks for relocation of utilities and final tie-ins. There will be storm drain installation
related activities on the north and south side of the roadway. Bridge construction related
activities will continue for the next few months on the south side of the roadway. Construction
and signal installation activities will continue in the vicinity of I-75 Bridges along Colonial. If

Daniels Parkway / Bell Tower Intersection Improvements
Construction activities began on Monday, March 1, 2010 on improvements to Daniels Parkway
between US 41 and the intersection of Brynwood Lane and Big Pine Way. This work will
include improvements to the signal and Sauer Drive/Bell Tower Drive, median improvements,
turn lane extensions, and sidewalks on the south side of the roadway.
This work will require lane closures during much of the work effort. Prior to April 5, 2010, lane
closures will be limited to night time hours only, 7pm to 6am. After April 5, 2010, lane closures
may also occur during off-peak hours, after 9 a.m. and before 3 p.m.; however, an alternate route
is suggested. The tentative completion date is September, 2010. Contact Robert Phelan at 533-

Gladiolus Update 6/3/2010
The majority of the construction activities have been completed on the Gladiolus Drive project
and all travel lanes are open for use. Minor construction activities may be occurring at various
locations throughout the project limits which may require lane closures for short periods of time.
Construction is expected to be complete by July 2010, contract Robert Phelan at 533-8594 with
any questions.
Summerlin Rd. Update 5/27/2010 – from Cypress Lake Dr. to Boy Scout Rd. Work
continues on widening the southbound roadway from north of College to Cypress Lake, and on
the northbound roadway near Boy Scout Rd. Work to remove the asbestos contamination and to
remove and replace the retaining wall on the south side has begun. The beams for the overpass
will be set through out the month of July and will entail night time closures of the Summerlin
College intersection from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, Detour routes will be posted and off duty police
officers will be on site to direct traffic. Dates for intersection closures throughout the month
will be posted on message boards and in Roadwatch

II. Road/Bridge Maintenance
Update 6/17/2010
Alva Bridge #120042, on Broadway Street over Caloosahatchee – Lee County DOT
Operations will be managing the 15 year rehab project for the Alva Bridge. The job is scheduled
to start July 6, 2010 and finish early 2011, weather permitting. There will be single lane closures
from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. During some night work activity the drawbridge will be closed to
motor vehicle traffic overnight. Variable message boards will be placed to alert drivers to bridge

Matlacha Bridge #120111 Bridge maintenance on the small bridge just south of the Matlacha
Bridge, will begin August 2nd and will last two weeks. We will have lane closures Monday-
Thursday from 8:30 am till 3:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Doug Busbee at

Mid Point Bridge East Bound -Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the concrete
repairs project for the Mid Point Bridge East Bound Lanes, Bridge # 1240496 on Veteran
Memorial PKWY. The project is scheduled for 90 days starting Monday May 10th, 2010. There
will be lane closures from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Ehab

Veterans Parkway Eastbound (Mid-Point Bridge) Effective immediately, until further
notice all Wide-Load Vehicles are prohibited from traveling Eastbound on Veterans Parkway
from Del Prado Blvd to the Toll Plaza on the Mid-Point Bridge. All Wide Load vehicles are
reuired to obtain a wide Load Permit from Lee County Department of Transportation to travel
over Lee County jurisdiction roads.

Midpoint Memorial Toll Plaza Demolition/Reconstruction – Beginning Monday, July 19th,
eastbound lanes through the Midpoint Bridge Toll Plaza will be shifted to the north. Once the
traffic shift is complete, there will be six westbound travel lanes and two eastbound travel lanes.
This lane shift is necessary to allow crews to demolish the southern portion of the toll plaza
canopy. This traffic shift is expected to remain in place for approximately 60 days.
During the toll plaza reconstruction, bicyclists will use a new bike path being constructed north
of the toll plaza. The new bike path is scheduled to be open by July 20th.
