I. Road Projects
Colonial Blvd (CR 884) Six Laning from I-75 to State Rd 82 (approx. 2.7 miles in length)
Construction activities began on Monday, August 10, 2009. Proposed work consists of widening
an existing four-lane highway facility, to a six-lane urbanized divided highway. This will include
the installation of street lighting, signalization, bridge widening and utility modifications. Two 8-
foot-wide asphalt multi-use sidewalks along the north and south sides of the road will be added.
The tentative completion date is April, 2011.

Colonial Blvd – There will be storm drain installation related activities on the north and south
side of the roadway. Bridge construction related activities will continue for the next few months
on the south side and north side of the roadway. Roadway construction and signal installation
activities will continue in the vicinity of I-75 Bridges along Colonial. Haul trucks will be
entering and leaving the roadway hauling embankment material from pond excavation affecting
the east and west bound lanes east of Treeline Avenue. There will be intermittent lane closures
during the night time hours approx. 8pm to 6am occasionally. Flagmen, lighted arrow boards,
advance warning signs and barricades will be used to assist motorists traveling through the area.

Daniels Parkway / Bell Tower Intersection Improvements
Construction activities began on Monday, March 1, 2010 on improvements to Daniels Parkway
between US 41 and the intersection of Brynwood Lane and Big Pine Way. This work will
include improvements to the signal and Sauer Drive/Bell Tower Drive, median improvements,
turn lane extensions, and sidewalks on the south side of the roadway.
This work will require lane closures during much of the work effort. Prior to April 5, 2010, lane
closures will be limited to night time hours only, 7pm to 6am. After April 5, 2010, lane closures
may also occur during off-peak hours, after 9 a.m. and before 3 p.m.; however, an alternate route
is suggested. The tentative completion date is September, 2010. Contact Robert Phelan at 533-

Gladiolus update 8/12/2010 – The majority of the construction activities have been completed
on the Gladiolus Drive project and all travel lanes are open for use. Minor construction activities
may be occurring at various locations throughout the project limits which may require lane
closures for short periods of time. Construction is expected to be complete by Aug. 2010,
contract Robert Phelan at 533-8594 with any questions.
Summerlin Rd. Update 5/27/2010 – from Cypress Lake Dr. to Boy Scout Rd. Work
continues on widening the southbound roadway from north of College to Cypress Lake, and on
the northbound roadway near Boy Scout Rd. Work to remove the asbestos contamination and to
remove and replace the retaining wall on the south side has begun. The beams for the overpass
will be set through out the month of July and will entail night time closures of the Summerlin
College intersection from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, Detour routes will be posted and off duty police
officers will be on site to direct traffic. Dates for intersection closures throughout the month
will be posted on message boards and in Roadwatch.Completion date is late 2010. Please contact

II. Road/Bridge Maintenance
Update 6/17/2010
Alva Bridge #120042, on Broadway Street over Caloosahatchee – Lee County DOT
Operations will be managing the 15 year rehab project for the Alva Bridge. The job is scheduled
to start July 6, 2010 and finish early 2011, weather permitting. There will be single lane closures
from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. During some night work activity the drawbridge will be closed to
motor vehicle traffic overnight. Variable message boards will be placed to alert drivers to bridge

Matlacha Bridge #120111 Bridge maintenance on the small bridge just south of the Matlacha
Bridge, will begin August 2nd and will last two weeks. We will have lane closures Monday-
Thursday from 8:30 am till 3:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Doug Busbee at

Matlacha Park Entrance Rd. – Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the overlay
project for the Matlacha Park entrance Bridge, Bridge # 124083. The project is scheduled for 45
days starting Wednesday August 4th, 2010. There will be lane closures from 8:00 am to 4:00

New 8/12/2010
Slater Road (over I-75) FDOT will be working on the bridge on August 16 through
August 18 doing repairs on the bridge joints. Work will be done between the hours of
9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day. There will be lane closures east and westbound lanes and
there will be flagmen directing traffic. Expect delays.
New 7/23/2010
Veterans Parkway Eastbound (Mid-Point Bridge) Effective immediately, until further
notice all Wide-Load Vehicles are prohibited from traveling Eastbound on Veterans Parkway
from Del Prado Blvd to the Toll Plaza on the Mid-Point Bridge. All Wide Load vehicles are
required to obtain a wide Load Permit from Lee County Department of Transportation to travel
over Lee County jurisdiction roads.
Veterans Parkway (Mid-Point Bridge) – From Aug 9th to Aug 12th expect intermittent lane
closures on the inside eastbound lane of the Mid-Point Bridge between the hours of 8am to 4pm.
Lee County Traffic will be conducting Street Light maintenance on the bridge. If you have any

Midpoint Memorial Toll Plaza Demolition/Reconstruction – Eastbound lanes are shifted to
the north through the Midpoint Bridge Toll Plaza. There are six westbound travel lanes and two
eastbound travel lanes.
Crews are demolishing the southern portion of the toll plaza canopy. This traffic shift is expected
to remain in place for approximately 60 days. During the toll plaza reconstruction, bicyclists
must use the new bike path that was constructed north of (around the back of) the toll plaza,
Until further notice, NO “oversized” load trucks are permitted in the eastbound lanes of the toll
plaza. This restriction also applies to State permitted oversized load trucks.

Sanibel Bridge – We will be doing Bridge Maintenance on the Sanibel Bridges A, B, and C
spans starting 8-16-10 and will last approx. 4 weeks. We will be shifting the lanes, but will keep
2 lanes of traffic open while the work is being done.. The work will start at 9:00am till 3:30pm.

III. Landscaping
U.S. 41 Landscaping Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the installation of
irrigation and landscaping along U.S. 41 between Jamaica Bay and San Carlos Blvd. This project
is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2010. Lane closures and traffic impacts

Bayshore Road Landscaping Lee County DOT Operations will be managing the installation
of irrigation and landscaping along Bayshore Road, between Slater Road and Pritchett Parkway.
This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2010. Lane closures and
