Water-themed Family Fun Day coming to North Fort Myers

An activity-packed free Water-themed Family Fun Day will be held at North Fort Myers United Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is a cooperative effort from numerous business owners and managers there.
“The owner of our plaza, Michael Kohn, is throwing this event for the community,” said Hair X-pressions Owner Rachel Griffen of the plaza. “The water theme is great for this time of year. It is summertime and it is hot.”
One of the features of the day will be what they call the “Monster Water Slide” along with free snow cones for children, a limbo contest and more. “The slide is an 18-foot inflatable water slide which will be set up in the parking lot of the plaza.”
“We will be having a lot of different water activities and games for kids, and will also have swimming pool, spa, boat and jet skis items and representatives there as well,” said Lisa Reece, of Extraordinary Eventz who is helping plan the event.
“Many area non profits such as the Red Cross, the YMCA, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Boys And Girls Clubs and Florida Blood Centers will also be there.”
Most of the merchants are offering discounts on services there as well and some giveaways during the event.
Eileen Lepore is the owner of Galini’s Deli, who will also be participating in the festival. “We really like being part of this plaza,” she said. “It is a great group of individuals in a variety of shops. There will also be animals for adoption. I’ll do a face painting of a dog or cat for anyone that adopts, and we’ll be featuring our sandwiches and hot dogs.”
Brian and Renee Pastman own Papa John’s Plaza there. “We’ll have pizza by the slice and it should be a fun day,” said Renee Pastman. They have been in this location for over eight years, a North Fort Myers staple business for pizza.
“We’ll have lemonade and cookies and specials on flowers,” said Robin Walton, owner of Blossom Shoppe Florist and Gifts. Her shop has been at the plaza for 12 years.
“We’re also accepting donations of school supplies for local schoolchildren,” said Hair X-pressions’ Griffen. “We’ll be doing nails that day. Staff members Micheline Trani our stylist/colorist, Kristy Brown, our nail technician and Jesica Kelly our stylist/colorist will be there. My staff is a great group of women to work with, a great team.”
Wyatt Slater is the owner of 2 – $1 Cards and More. Besides cards, his shop hosts a popular postal service. “We’re also looking forward to the event, and kids should have a lot of fun sliding down the slide. We’re also looking forward to working with the plaza owner on it.”
Owner David Smallwood and Manager John Young of Str8Line Tattoo will also have specials that day. “It’s a very busy plaza, that’s what brought me here over a year ago, the location.”
Shenita Branigan, owner of the plaza’s Appeal Beauty Products, said she believes it will be a great community event. “You can beat the heat of the summer at the United Plaza.”
The United Plaza is located 13971 N. Cleveland Ave. on the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Pondella Road.
