Local Rotary helps with school supplies for students at Tropic Isles Elementary
Many officials from The Rotary Club of North Fort Myers were on hand to deliver school supplies to a local school last week, with the good news that their collected funds were matched by Rotary District officials.
Rotary District 6960 matched funds raised, over $300 – to bring a total of supplies to over $600 – said Dr. Terry Tucker of the Tucker Eye Center, the new Rotary president.
“It was also the work of the Rotary Inner Wheels, spouses of The Rotary Club of North Fort Myers members, who helped us actually purchase the supplies,” Tucker said.
Members on hand included the Rotary’s Ed Shumate, Ray Hair, Deena Westberry, Dick McCon-ville, Norm Jones, Dr. Tucker, Danielle Hall and Bill Mathis.
Interim Principal Brandy Macchia and the school’s Mary Idlette accepted numerous backpacks and other supplies from the local club.
“The Rotary Clubs in all areas are looking to do donations to people and organizations in need in the community,” said Dr. Tucker.
“They have been very supportive to us throughout the years,” said Macchia. “This will be very helpful to local families in need, especially in this economy.”
She did also report that the local elementary did get off to great start this year.
