Hall update on Waterway Estates
Good afternoon residents On behalf of Commissioner Hall below is a quick update on Waterway Estates.
Here is the latest for the area.
1. Current construction activity in the Waterway Estates area is for the purpose of upgrading aging waterlines. This activity is not associated with the wastewater treatment plant.
2. The Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) formally acquired the North Fort Myers Utility (NFMU) on July 30, 2010.
3. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners approved the agreement between Lee County Utilities and FGUA to construct an interconnect to the NFMU system that will serve customers from the Waterway Estates area and allow for the elimination of the Waterway Estates Wastewater Treatment Plant.
4. It is anticipated the interconnection will be complete and functional around August of 2012. This completion date will be dependent on some permitting and land acquisition issues.
5. The existing plant would then be decommissioned and demolished after the completion of the interconnect facilities.
6. LCU and Lee County’s Construction and Design Department are currently finalizing a plan to repair and upgrade some of the onsite facilities and hopefully allow limited access to the plant site for pedestrian traffic.
