Many are excited about an upcoming performance by The Charlie Daniels Band, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15, at the Lee Civic Center.

But if you ask Charlie Daniels himself to describe his style of music, his answer would be that he won’t.

For decades, he has steadfastly refused to label his music. He will say that it is a combination of rock, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel in his latest personal update.

In his most recent biography, sent by his agency’s president Bobby McLamb, it states that, “Charlie Daniels is partly Western and partly Southern – quintessentially Southern.”

It hasn’t been so much a style of music, the biography noted, but more the values consistently reflected in several styles that have connected Charlie Daniels with millions of fans.

Fans of many ages are planning to attend the event. Besides the many who have seen Daniels perform for decades, a whole new younger group of fans have discovered his distinctive style through still sought-after commercial endorsements.

“He’s a big fan of Southwest Florida, and Southwest Florida is a big fan of him,” said Lee Civic Center General Manager Artie McIntyre.

Ticket sales are hot.

“This is a national act. Everyone I’ve talked to is giving us a lot of positive feedback on hosting this band.”

A local country band – One Night Rodeo – will open for the legendary Daniels.

“The Southwest Florida Lee County Fair Association is proudly presenting the event,” McIntyre said, and it is sponsoring some other returning popular events and some new ones.

“A new event will be the Southwest Florida World of Wheels event Nov. 12 through 14. We are also bringing back our popular haunted house event, to be held over two weekends.”

The Halloween event will be held Oct. 22 and 23, and Oct. 28 through 31, starting at 6 p.m. nightly. “It will be very, very scary,” said McIntyre.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for The Charlie Daniels Band performance, and ticket prices vary. They include reserve elevated seats at $22 and reserve floor seats $35.
