The North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce hosted a talk by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Southeastern Regional Director Moore Hallmark at the October monthly meeting, who talked about goals for local and national business growth.

“We have five main goals,” he said.

They include one, expanding U.S. exports and two, expanding infrastructure. “We also need to ensure investment in all American energy resources, including traditional and renewable.”

The fourth goal is to expand credit across the economy, he said. “The fifth is to address economic uncertainties, including taxes.”

In that arena, he talked about health care, environmental issues, labor and legal and fiscal policies.

“These are still uncertain things we need to address, that are preventing businesses from expanding and hiring new employees.”

The Chamber also announced a new member, an area student-driven catering business known as Chef J Catering, a division of the Oasis Charter Culinary Program.

“I teach in the Culinary Program at Oasis Charter High School,” said Chef Jethro Joseph. “When I started we had 24 students. Now, we have more than 250.”

He was joined by students Londynn Metten and Cailegh Minihan who served Chamber members lunch.

Joseph said the idea of starting a real catering company came from the fact that so many students were interested in actually working in the field. He works in a local restaurant, but could not fill all the many requests for a job by students.

Requests for catering by the students can be made through chefjcatering.com, or by calling 770-0136.
