Two Shot, Suspect Arrested in Fort Myers
On Monday, October 18, 2010, at approximately 12:21 P.M., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Richmond Avenue and Lexington Avenue, Fort Myers, in reference to a reported shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they encountered a male, identified as Orlando De Jesus Cabrera (DOB 11/6/87) walking from the driveway of 5226 Richmond Avenue, Fort Myers. Cabrera had his hands in the air and proceeded to lay face down in the roadway and place his hands behind his back.
Cabrera was taken into custody without incident and placed in the back seat of a patrol car. Deputies secured the area and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as Crystal Verona Folsom (DOB 4/27/92), of 5226 Richmond Avenue, Fort Myers, had been shot once in the face and once in the leg. The second victim, identified as Edward R. Landrum (DOB 7/1/90), also of 5226 Richmond Avenue, Fort Myers, had been shot in the arm. Both individuals were transported to local hospitals. Their injuries are not life threatening.
Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation. Detectives learned the shooting occurred following an encounter the victims had with the suspect while driving. The investigation revealed the suspect was driving behind the victims and was unhappy with what he felt was a slow speed of travel. The suspect followed the victims to the area of Richmond Avenue, where the incident escalated to a shooting.
Cabrera has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The assault charge stems from an encounter he had with a witness at the crime scene during the incident.
