Rotary Golf Tournament raises funds for scholarships, scouting and more

Last week, officials from The Rotary Club of North Fort Myers presented checks to several local organizations and raised funds for scholarships through their annual golf tournament.
“What we do is give scholarships to students that are academically effective but may also be in some financial need,” Dr. Terry Tucker, president of the Rotary Club of North Fort Myers, said.
The scholarships will go to North Fort Myers High School students and will be determined in the future.
“We also give to the Boy Scouts, specifically to North Fort Myers Boy Scout Troops, funds for supplies for both summer camps and to supply them throughout the scouting year,” he said.
Tucker, who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout – scouting’s highest honor – in his scouting days, said he knows how important the organization is to area youths.
President-elect and golf tournament Chairman Ray Hair said the tournament itself was a great success.
“It was also an opportunity to showcase the Southwest Florida Council Boy Scouts of America and the Rotary’s commitment to North Fort Myers,” he said.
Hair, along with Rotary’s past president Deena Westberry, presented a check for $2,000 to scouts Garrett Albertine and Nick Chrone of the Boy Scouts of Southwest Florida.
All of the funds will be used for Boy Scouts in North Fort Myers.
Hair, a former scout who now volunteers with the organization, is a big supporter of scouting.
“Scouting provides young men with an opportunity to set goals and reach their dreams,” he said.
Hair commented on the tourney.
“Participants enjoyed golf, as well as lunch and a raffle, which provided additional dollars to support local charities,” he said.
The tournament was held at The Golf Club At Magnolia Landing.
“The facilities at Magnolia Landing were fantastic and golf pro Aaron Sustad and his team provided a great venue for the tournament,” Hair said.
Magnolia Landing’s General Manager Brain Wasser said the club enjoys hosting the Rotary for events.
“We host several events with them every year, including their Christmas party and a summer event. We also do a lot of charitable events, including our biggest, Rally For The Cure, held in February,” he said.
Another check was presented by Rotarians last week to Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, and Rotary members will continue to raise fund for worthy local individuals and organizations.
