Sly Thief Steals Sentimental Sylvester And Tweety Statue

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help tracking down the thief who stole a statue of the cartoon characters Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird from an elderly couple in Fort Myers.
Sometime between 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26th and Saturday morning, Nov. 27th,
someone stole the 24 inch statue from Jim Winebarger, who resides in Coastal Estates
at 11121 Bombay Lane. The statue was deeply embedded into the ground, and was
reinforced with steel rods. And while the statue may not have much financial value,
Winebarger says it holds extreme sentimental value to he and his wife, as it was a gift
from his nephew 10 years ago. The victim says the statue hasn’t been tampered with for
the last decade, and that its difficult to imagine why anyone would have gone onto his
property and stolen it.
On top of the reward money being offered through Crime Stoppers, the victim is also
offering an additional $50 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons
who trespassed onto his property and stole the statue. More importantly, though, he’s
hoping someone will call in a tip and at the very minimum, he’ll get his statue back.
Anyone with information on the identity of the person who stole the statue, or the
whereabouts of Sylvester and Tweety, are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-
TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of
up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org.
