Update on traffic delays this week on the Matlacha Bridge
Expect traffic delays this week on the Matlacha Bridge.
Equipment need to drive the sheet piling this week (1/25 1/27) was not available as expected; therefore the operation has been rescheduled for next week. Lanes on the Matlacha Bridge will be reduced to one lane two-way traffic during the following dates and times:
– Monday January 31, 2011 from 9am to 4pm and from 7pm to 10pm.
– Tuesday February 1, 2011 from 9am to 3pm and from 7pm to 6am.
– Wednesday, Feb 2, 2011 through Friday, Feb 4, 2011 from 9am to 4pm (3pm on Friday) and from 7pm to 10pm.
The contractor will be driving temporary sheet piling in order to maintain the existing roadway during construction. The sheet pile will hold back the existing roadway and prevent it from eroding during construction of the new bridge.
Contractors will leave both lanes open before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m., during peak work travel hours. Both lanes will be stopped for short periods so that the crane can swing the sheeting into place and begin driving; one lane can then be opened and flagmen will direct traffic over the bridge.
For more information on the lane closures, please call Randy Cerchie at 533-8573 or Sarah Clarke at 533-8718.
